2,200: The approximate length of the AT

14: The number of states the AT crosses. Georgia, North Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Massachusetts, Vermont, New Hampshire and Maine.

6,643: The highest elevation in feet along the AT. This point is reached at Clingman’s Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

5,500: The number of calories required for the average hiker to maintain his/her weight during a typical hiking day.

30: The average number of pounds lost by thru-hikers during their journey. It is not uncommon for hikers to lose upwards of 50,70 or even 100 pounds.
